Site Suitability

Quantified Technical Diagnosis

Identification of anomalies, structural degradation, and evolving risk through combined analysis of historical data, inspections, and physical modeling, allowing quantification of impacts on life expectancy and reliability.

Methodology

Internally developed integration and analysis methodology, based on validated physical models and structural engineering expertise, applied to site suitability studies, life extension, retrofit and refurbishment validation, repowering, and hybridization with PV and BESS systems.

Retrofit Services

The Retrofit service at Nabla Wind Hub is focused on assessing and validating the structural and operational compatibility of technical modifications applied to operating wind turbines. This includes software changes, controller updates, power curve adjustments, or the integration of new systems such as improvements in yaw, pitch, sensors, or advanced control strategies.

Through aeroelastic simulations, FEM analysis, and regulatory review in accordance with IEC 61400-28, we evaluate how these modifications impact structural loads, fatigue accumulation, and the overall safety of the turbine-farm system, ensuring that changes are implemented without compromising integrity or asset lifespan.

Key Benefits of This Service:

  • Verify the technical validity of retrofits proposed by OEMs or third parties.
  • Ensure regulatory and structural compliance after modifications or technological upgrades.
  • Validate the integrity of refurbished structural components, enabling the issuance of Certificates of Conformance.
  • Optimize turbine performance without introducing structural overloads.
  • Identify improvement opportunities while preserving remaining asset life.

Technical evaluation of modifications through aeroelastic simulations and structural analysis allows a precise understanding of their real impact on loads, fatigue, and turbine behavior. This approach provides the foundation to implement retrofits with technical guarantees, optimizing asset performance without compromising structural integrity or lifespan.

Repowering Services

Key Benefits of This Service:

  • Increase farm performance through full or partial repowering without introducing structural risks.
  • Maximize the use of existing infrastructure (foundations, towers, pads, access roads, and grid connections).
  • Validate the integration of refurbished turbines or new technological configurations under site-specific conditions.
  • Obtain technical approvals based on structural analysis and applicable regulations.
  • Reduce technical and economic uncertainties in large-scale repowering projects.

Technical analysis of repowering scenarios allows precise evaluation of how new turbines interact with site-specific conditions and existing infrastructure. This approach provides the necessary foundation to implement repowering projects that maximize energy production while maintaining structural safety and farm reliability.

Our Methodology
for Renewable Hybrid
Analysis in Wind Farms

At Nabla Wind Hub, we conduct technical evaluations of the impact a renewable hybrid project may have on the host technology, the existing wind turbines. Our goal is to ensure that the new hybrid configuration is safe, efficient, and compatible with the remaining life of the wind assets, guaranteeing that the technological integration can be implemented without compromising structural integrity or farm operation.

To achieve this, we apply a proprietary methodology
based on seven fundamental pillars:

01

Life Assessment

Evaluation of the remaining useful life of wind turbines to determine their capacity to withstand new operational conditions resulting from hybridization.

02

Wind Farm Production Study

Analysis of the wind farm’s energy performance to identify optimization opportunities through the integration of additional renewable generation.

03

Review of the Operational and Maintenance History (O&M)

Assessment of the operational and maintenance history to identify degradation patterns, reliability, and relevant technical constraints.

04

Technological Compatibility and Repowering Scenarios

Analysis of different technological configurations (hybridization, retrofit, or repowering) to ensure their structural and operational feasibility at the site.

05

Global Curtailment Strategies

Implementation of uniform power reductions across the wind farm to limit structural loads and protect critical components under new operating conditions.

06

Staggered Shutdowns

Implementation of selective or staggered shutdown schemes to manage loads and optimize wind farm operation under specific wind or production scenarios.

07

Alternative and Customized Strategies

Definition of operational strategies tailored to the site and installed technology, combining power control, operational logic, and specific wind farm configurations.

Our approach combines advanced structural engineering, operational analysis of the wind farm, and long-term strategic vision, ensuring that hybridization decisions are made based on solid technical foundations and aligned with the future profitability of the asset.
